Edward Washington II is an American tenor whose powerful voice and dazzling coloratura make him a standout talent in the opera world. His remarkable ability to navigate a broad spectrum of musical styles—from classical to contemporary—coupled with his international experience, positions him as a versatile and distinguished artist.


Edward’s dynamic career features compelling performances with some of the most prestigious opera companies such as the Metropolitan Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, Detroit Opera Annapolis Opera, and New York City Opera.


Mr. Washington’s repertoire is as diverse as it is challenging, showcasing his exceptional range and depth. Notable roles include Robbins in Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, Pong in Puccini’s Turandot, and Tamino in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte.

Edward’s collaborations with esteemed ensembles such as the United States Air Force Band, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and Vox Fortura (Britain’s Got Talent Semi Finalists) are a testament to his versatility and appeal. His performances at Carnegie Hall, where he has been featured twice. 7 premiere’s of the works of American composers further underscore his prominence in the classical music scene.

Beyond his performance career, Edward Washington II is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of musical heritage. As the former Music and Education Director for the “Negro Spiritual” Scholarship Foundation in Orlando, he directed their Master Singers ensemble and continues to advocate for the importance of this musical tradition. Mr. Washington’s involvement with Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia reflects his commitment to the advancement of music in America.

Born in England and raised in Saudi Arabia and the United States, Mr. Washington now calls New York City home. This diverse background enriches the tenor’s performances with a unique cultural perspective. Edward holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Stetson University and a Master of  Arts in Vocal Performance from Morgan State University, a historically black university.
